KLITSCHKO ON HAYE: "THIS GUY IS NUTS"
Alors Go! mister Haye! Make my day!!
Cruiserweight sensation David Haye has made no secret of what he thinks
of the overwhelming majority of today's heavyweight division. "The
Hayemaker," who is soon to launch an all-out assault on the weight
class and its fighters, has gone as far as calling men like Klitschko,
Peter and Valuev flat out bums. Well, in an interview with Setanta
Sports, Wladimir Klitschko, who is in London for a few days, fired back
at Haye.
"I met this guy yesterday," Wladimir told Setanta on April 25th. "I'd
never heard of him before, but he was so loud I could've heard his
voice overseas. This guy is nuts. He's a nice guy, but he's so excited
about his career and moving up to the heavyweight division and winning
all the titles. He's definitely got a good punch and is a great boxer
but he's just so loud it's unbelievable," the IBF and WBO ruler added.
Haye is certainly massive on self confidence, but so far, as good as
he's looked at cruiserweight (with just one win at heavyweight to go
along with it) Haye has to prove to a lot of people that he is indeed
going to "clean up" at heavyweight. Klitschko, for one, needs
convincing.
"He's built up his name in Great Britain already but he has to make a
name for himself in America. He has to have a couple of good fights at
heavyweight and, after that, who knows?, Klitschko said. "If he
continues to do well then maybe we will fight each other," Wladimir
also said.
It's quite surprising that Klitschko has never even heard of Haye, at
least until yesterday. Considering the amount of fuss many boxing
people made after the Londoner's demolition of Enzo Maccarinelli, and
his well publicised plans to invade the heavyweights, one would have
thought Wladimir would have at least have heard Haye's name. But no,
Klitschko, who is the general choice for the heavyweight division's
number one, knew nothing of Haye. Still, the best heavyweight in the
world right now did suggest the possibility of Haye taking over one day.
"Maybe Great Britain is going to have the next undisputed heavyweight
champion of the world," Klitschko mused. "But only after I retire," he
added with a smile.
The hype is now in overdrive for the day when the huge-punching "Hayemaker" meets the best at heavyweight! _ Source_EastSideBoxing

CALZAGHE REPLIQUE...
"I'm A More Experienced Fighter Than Bernard Hopkins"
In an exclusive interview with Setanta sports in which Joe Calzaghe
spoke to T.V presenter Des Lynham, the unbeaten Welshman spoke in depth
about the man he is going to be fighting in less than five days time.
Some of the things the 36 year old said were quite noteworthy, too..
"He [Hopkins] is a bit of an idiot really. What else can I say ?"
Calzaghe began when asked what he thought of Hopkins. "I don't think he
understands, He's fighting somebody who is more experienced than him.
He's 43, but I've probably been fighting for longer than him," Joe
stated.
This, for me, was a bit of a strange thing for Calzaghe to say. Does he
really believe he is more experienced than the two-weight world
champion? Let's take a look at the statistics, and see if Joe is right
or wrong. In number of overall pro bouts, B-Hop holds the edge - with
54 fights on his resume compared to 44 on Calzaghe's. In number of
world title fights, "The Executioner" has had 27, Joe C, on the other
hand, has had 22. Both men's number are impressive here, but yet again
B-Hop has the edge. And finally, in terms of length of pro career,
Hopkins again has more experience - having boxed as a pro since way
back in 1988. Calzaghe began his pro career back in 1993. This makes me
ask, based on Joe's "I'm more experienced" quote - has Calzaghe looked
at the stats? Hopkins, though this doesn't automatically make him the
better fighter, IS the more experienced.
Another thing Calzaghe said bothered me with regards to his preparations.
"I never really watch fight tapes," Joe said. "I've watched just one fight of his [Hopkins'] fights."
Joe never said which fight of B-Hop's this was, but, just one? Why not
take the time to better study the masterful boxer you are soon to be
swapping punches with? Sure, all fighters do things there own way, and
some profess to never watching tapes at all. But, call it a hunch and
nothing more, I now have at least a little feeling that Calzaghe is
somewhat taking Hopkins for granted. Has over confidence gotten to "The
Pride of Wales?"
A new weight class, his first fight in America, against his very first
all-time great opponent! Shouldn't Joe be trying to get every possible
edge he can to win? And as for saying, and appearing to truly believe,
that he is a more experienced fighter than the former middleweight and
current light-heavyweight king; Joe is fooling himself on that score.
Bernard Hopkins is the word experienced personified - in life as well
as in the boxing ring. Source_EastSideBoxing.com

HOPKINS PARLE...
Hopkins Workout Quotes - Calzaghe/Hopkins
Ring
Magazine light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins opened the doors of
his training camp in Pasadena, California today and showed the media a
sample of his rigorous training schedule. Hopkins, who did a full
workout, was in a terrific mood and had this to say to the members of
the press assembled ringside.
"I think that saying I can manipulate my opponents is an insult to my
abilities and takes away from them too. I feel you should just look at
my professionalism and know that I have been able to master the sport
of boxing and hone the skills I have been able to develop, mold and
maintain. The only thing that I am going to get in his head is this
left and right hand.
"Basically I know what I am doing and no one can take that away from me..
"I don't have a college degree but I have an education in life. I am a graduate of life.
"When you see me on April 19, you will once again say-how does he do it?
"The only difference I feel from now and several years ago is that I
have more gray hairs in my beard and my running time is a little
later-Instead of running at 5am, I now go at 6:30am.
"I brought in Mackie because all I hear about is how Joe throws 1000
punches around. I'm not crazy. I getting ready for those 1000 punches a
round and have to ready to hit him 1000 times too.
"But let me ask you something, all they say is 1000 punches a round but they never say anything else about those punches." Source_EastSideBoxing.com
